Hindrance or Helpmate

I know what you’re thinking – because I promise, it used to be me. “I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROARRR!”

And yes, we are still strong women and yes, we still roar. Don’t believe me? Mess with a momma’s cub. Then see how much of your face is still intact afterward. MOMMAS DON’T PLAY.

So, yes.

We are strong. So strong, if fact that we are able to grow and birth an entire human within our body. Then, we can do it all over again once that one’s done cooking.

So, keep all that in mind as I say this to you…

DEEEEEEEP BREATH IN!

God created us to be helpmates. ***exhale***

Genesis 2:18 says “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make a helper to fit him.”

On top of that, our husband is our leader. And I know some of you are asking these questions (because, honestly, I asked the same ones and more)…

“But, what about when he’s rude to me and has a sharp tongue?”

“Well, I’m just about tired of picking up after his slobby self.”

Or my favorite and one I used ALL the time…

“Do you know how much I do around here?? Do you even appreciate me?”

I hear you – TRUST ME, I hear you. But there is something about a woman that follows the Word and watches it WORK. Because I am telling you ladies, it works.

I’ve always been the stubborn, bullheaded type. Since the day I was born, I came out ready to fight you for what I believed in. Ask my mother!

Somewhere along the way, I built a belief system that said ‘I don’t need no man’ and learned to treat men as less than they deserved. I wasn’t a “helper”. I thought men were put on earth to help ME and if you don’t get it right, then NEXT! Right? Am I the only one that had that idea?

In coming closer to the Lord, I’ve FINALLY learned something…after years of fighting this concept. Because C’MON, this is hard to accept!

Here it is. So, hold your breath or pour you a glass of wine and read this thoroughly.

1 Peter 3:1-22  says “Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands.”

NAILS. ON. A. CHALKBOARD.

Is that not what it sounded like to you? Well here’s why. The ideas in your mind that are causing you to detest that verse are the very ones the Lord wants to purge. He wants to grow you in that area and give you a NEW, fresh relationship.

And get this…it works. YES! I’ve tried it (with gritted teeth) and it actually freakin works.

We spend a lot of time wanting the other person to change. But the Lord is telling us that when WE become the person He intended us to be, if we are with the RIGHT man (abuse is never okay), they will be “won without a word but by the CONDUCT” of their wife.

You read that right. WON. What does that mean? Your actions will soften him and allow the Lord to speak into and change his heart. Doesn’t that give you a little more encouragement to put your pride aside and be his helper?

At the beginning, when Adam and Eve were living in the Garden of Eden, we were given a word of what sin did to a woman’s mind.

Check this out – Genesis 3:16 says “I will sharpen the pain of your pregnancy, and in pain you will give birth. And you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you.”

Did you catch that? Because of sin, we desire to CONTROL our husband. And that’s how we ended up here!

So, ladies – let’s take it back to the garden before she ate that stinkin apple.

Let’s be our man’s helpmate and watch him change little by little.

And STILL roar (in a lioness kind of way). 😉
